Jeremy Staat Foundation Golf Tournament

JeremyStaatFoundation_Logo The Jeremy Staat Foundation was created by Founder and President Jeremy Staat who is retired from the National Football League having played for the Seahawks, Steelers and Rams. Jeremy is also a United States Marine, Iraqi War Veteran, and Countryman. The Jeremy Staat Foundation began in early June 2011, and offers a “hand-up” to any Veteran regardless of age, war era, or branch of service. All Veterans regardless if they are an Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force Veteran, moreover they are all American Veterans. All who serve their country are “Wounded” whether they have a physical wound or not.

The Jeremy Staat Foundation is horrified at the suicide epidemic that faces Veterans today. The rate of suicide for America’s Veterans is three-times the national average. Veterans account for one in every five suicides and over 1000 Veterans each month attempt suicide while under the VA’s care. For those Veterans who have fought in the Global War on Terror, the suicide rate is 31.8% per 100,000, that is 31,800 young men and women who served to defend our freedom. This epidemic cannot continue, The Jeremy Staat Foundation feels that they and Americans have a responsibility to the men and women who serve us aren’t lost when they come home.

Since its inception The Jeremy Staat Foundation has been an Advocate against Veteran Suicide, speaking out and raising awareness to bring light on this epidemic. Beginning with the completion of the Kern County Wall of Valor, where The Jeremy Staat Foundation along with local school children helped in raising over $560,000, so that those individuals from Kern County who had died in combat, and those who continue to fall for this great country will be forever immortalized.

In 2012, The Jeremy Staat Foundation brought the Vietnam Memorial Wall that Heals to Bakersfield to educate, raise awareness and to be the starting place for the Wall to Wall Bicycle ride. Jeremy rode 3468 miles through 16 states from Bakersfield, California to Washington, DC. Along the way, Jeremy made stops in 77 cities and 15 military bases, totaling 176 separate events, including 109 speaking engagements. The Jeremy Staat Foundation raised awareness by visiting and speaking at 25 schools, 16 VA hospitals and retirement homes, 82 Veterans’ organizations and 77 various service organizations, churches, other non-profits and sporting events and clubs.

The Jeremy Staat Foundation offers assistance to other Veterans’ Organizations as well, such as the Military Order of the Purple Heart, The Marine Corps League and the VFW. The Jeremy Staat Foundation serves as an education and awareness partner for the community with the bringing of The Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance to the Kern County Fair, as well as, the participation in many community events.

Currently, The Jeremy Staat Foundation is working on building a scholarship program to create Veteran Owned Business (VOB) in the advocacy against Veteran Suicide. Many returning Veterans, who have been placed in command over 20 to 30 Servicemen or Women and over 2 million dollars in equipment are finding it very difficult to return to civilian life flipping hamburgers or pushing a broom. This combined with the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), many Veterans are finding it hard to continue the course. The Jeremy Staat Foundation Motivation Factory, a 1940’s style boxing gym is a VOB that is designed to be placed and ran anywhere in the United States. It will give these Veteran owners the sense of pride, honor and purpose of service that was instilled in them during their military training. It will also prove for them to be a way to give back to their community.

Jeremy also mentors, on a one on one basis, those who are at the stepping off point to committing suicide. He has on many occasions taken time to “talk them off the ledge”. Giving them words of assurance, understanding, hope and the feeling of being needed that they are yearning for.

The Jeremy Staat Foundation is committed to raising awareness, the education and prevention of Veterans’ suicide through all programs, speaking engagements, hand-ups, VOB, and mentoring of those who have served, with service over self being a key principle.   When you give to The Jeremy Staat Foundation you help provide programs to combat Veteran Suicide.
