End of an Era

ASU Karsten Golf Couse closes after 30 years as the home of ASU Golf

On May 6, 2019, a 30-year era came to an end with the closure of ASU Karsten Golf Course, which hosted public golf as well as serving as the home course for ASU Golf since opening in 1989. The Sun Devils are now based at nearby Papago Golf Course where a unique public/private partnership between the City of Phoenix, ASU and the Arizona Golf Community Foundation significantly upgraded the golf facility.

A special thank you to all of the people who made ASU Karsten Golf Course a reality: Bob and Karen Hobbs, Solly Sollenberger, the Dye family, the Solheim family, Collegiate Golf Foundation, Jones Studio, Holmes & Sons, Keith Turley, Rusty Lyon, The Thunderbirds, Fred Miller, Lattie Coor, Bob Davies, Henry DeLozier, Mike Conner, Sun Angel Foundation, Nap Lawrence, Steve Loy, Matt Thurmond, Tim Mickelson, Linda Vollstedt, Randy Lein, Melissa Luellen, Missy Farr-Kaye, Phil Mickelson and many others. Their dedication to ASU Golf and Karsten Golf Course paved the way for decades of public play as well as one of the most successful collegiate golf programs ever.

We will be forever grateful for the hundreds of thousands of golfers who have played rounds of golf here, many of whom are regulars who will be sorely missed. And, you can’t run a golf facility like ASU Karsten without the customer-oriented staff who day in and day out, seven days a week, kept ASU Karsten both a great place to work and a wonderful place to visit.
