ASU Karsten delivers classic golf in the heart of Cactus League Spring Training
Once again Major League Baseball’s Spring Training is here. But “play ball” doesn’t always mean baseball. No doubt a hefty percentage of the nearly 2 million fans descending on the Valley of the Sun also will carve out time from Spring Training to play golf in the Phoenix/Tempe area. ASU Karsten Golf Course is ready for them.
Scottsdale Stadium, Tempe Diablo, Sloan Park, Hohokam and Salt River Fields
The five Spring Training venues surrounding ASU Karsten are well within the leather as great options for a dew-sweeper round of golf in the morning before catching spring training action in the afternoon. Within minutes, golfers can tap in on the last hole at Karsten and catch a Chicago Cubs game at Sloan Park, which sits a mere 3 miles directly east on Rio Salado Parkway. Only five miles north on Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale Stadium is the home of the San Francisco Giants. Tempe Diablo Stadium, home of the Los Angles Angels, is located only 6.5 miles away to the west, while Hohokam Stadium, where the Oakland A’s begin their season, is 7.4 miles away to the east on Loop 202. And Salt River Fields, where the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks play, is straight north on the Loop 101, 11 miles from ASU Karsten.
Southwest – Dodgers, White Sox, Reds, Indians and Brewers
Although the ball parks on the southwest side of the Phoenix-metro area are a bit further away, it’s a straight shot east on the 202 then the 10, and after rush-hour traffic subsides, you can really make some time. The trip to Camelback Ranch would seem like nothing to road warriors rooting on the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. Also in the general area, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians play at Goodyear Ballpark, and the Milwaukee Brewers play at Maryvale Stadium.
Northwest – Royals and Rangers
A bit of a haul, but still doable for diehard fans, Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers play at Surprise Stadium (51 miles from ASU Karsten), and the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners play at Peoria Sports Complex.
Great Golf, Professional Baseball, Exceptional Weather
For those chasing spectacular golf and Spring Training baseball, the Phoenix/Tempe area is a dream come true. Add in sunny-and-70s weather, and it’s a homerun.
